Two Windmills Walk
Distance: Approximately 3–4 miles | Duration: 30–60 minutes | Difficulty: Easy–Moderate | Dog-friendly: Yes
The Two Windmills Walk is a slightly longer variation on the single-windmill route, taking in not one but two of the historic drainage mills that are so characteristic of the Norfolk Broads. Starting from Priory Farm in St Olaves, the circular route follows field edges and river paths to reach a pair of windmills situated within sight of each other across the open marshland.
The contrast between the two mills is part of what makes this route interesting: one is a more traditional brick-built tower mill, the other a timber-framed structure. Both give a sense of the different engineering approaches used by Broadland farmers across the centuries. The open landscape between them means you can often spot both at the same time from elevated points on the flood bank.
Please note that parts of this walk may be overgrown during the summer months, particularly along the less-used field-edge paths. Wearing long trousers and stout footwear is recommended. The route is dog-friendly throughout. Please keep dogs on leads near grazing livestock, which are often present on the marsh pastures between June and October.
